Elise MacMillan, MS, LMFT-A (she/her)

Welcome! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, also known as a systemic therapist. Working from a systemic viewpoint means that I approach therapy work by looking at all of the connections in our lives that impact us. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Social and Behavioral Psychology at Liberty University and my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Converse University. I completed a year-long clinical practicum where I was given the opportunity to work with folks of varying ages and lifestyles. I have completed training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy ( Core Skills in progress) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy for trauma work.

My first career was in healthcare, where I had the privilege of working alongside many phenomenal physicians, providers, and specialists in various different capacities. This experience prompted me to recognize the deep need for support/therapy for medical professionals in the Greenville area.

Some of my hobbies include exercising, reading fiction books, and spending with my husband and young daughter.

Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is client-centered. This means that I work with my clients to make progress toward their unique goals. While I may have suggestions for exercises to do in session, I prioritize meeting my clients where they are and focusing on what they feel is most helpful for them in each session.

Structure and Theory

I do Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). This model focuses on helping people get down to the root cause of what is causing them distress and works to create safety, security, and ease in the relationship. I use this model because it is empirically validated and highly successful with couples and also in individual work.

I am also trained in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy). This is a model specifically used to provide relief from trauma or negative experiences. I adore this model because it allows clients to share as little as they like about their experiences.
